These native wildflower plantings are in two distinct areas in downtown Hanover, NH: a wildflower area next to the Marshall Parking Lot on Maple Street and the School Street Sustainability Park. Both areas had previously been seeded with wildflowers several years ago, but needed intensive trash cleanup, weeding and reseeding. The Marshall Parking Lot site was planted in April, 2022. The Sustainability Park is undergoing a landscape redesign and will be planted at a later date.
These plantings are a joint effort between the town of Hanover, NH, Hanover’s Parks and Recreation Department, Dartmouth’s Class of 1989, and student volunteers from the Sustainability Action Program from Dartmouth’s Sustainability Office.

Initial Planting Date – TBD |
Hanover’s School Street Sustainability Park is a beautiful public place that transforms a ‘vacant’ lot in downtown Hanover into a vibrant habitat. It’s anticipated that this project will reseed native wildflowers in an area greater than ~1000 sq. ft.
The Marshall Parking Lot is being planted with a combination of annuals and perennials. The goal is for the non-native annuals to quickly stabilize the area, prevent additional erosion, and help prevent severe weed infestations. The flowering annuals should also provide a wide variety of color and plant sizes during the 2022 growing season, providing a significant benefit for pollinators.
The native perennial wildflowers will take a little longer to establish themselves. Some should start to appear in the late summer of 2022, but most won’t start to thrive until the spring of 2023.
