As part of the Class of 1989's Pollinator Project, these annual wildflowers are being planted around Dartmouth's campus in conjunction with the native, perennial wildflowers. The perennials used at each location can be found on each site's description page.
While the annuals and perennials are being planted at the same time, the annuals are intended to grow quickly, bloom throughout the season, stabilize soil erosion, and prevent weed germination---all while giving the native perennials a chance to establish themselves. After the first year, the perennials should replace the annuals and flourish for many years afterward.
